1. Epson Expression Photo XP-960 – Recommended Photo Printer for Mac – Wide Format
This is one of a few affordable photo printers that can print in wide format i.e at A3 size. Most photo printers in this price range print upto A4 in size.
Besides that, it produces superb quality photos thanks to its 6 ink system instead of the conventional 4 inks. The benefit of this is obvious. The more colors your printer has, the better tonal variation and gradient capturing it would have.
Furthermore, it is also an All-in-One printer. Therefore, it can scan and copy as well. To complete the malfunction package, it also includes CD/DVD printing tray should you ever need to print CD labels.
Connectivity wise, it is also a complete package. It offers wireless connectivity, Ethernet Port, Wi-Fi direct for printing directly via smart devices, SD card slot for reading media cards and a front USB for flash drives
This model supports Apple AirPrint and therefore, printing through mobile devices should be fairly easy.
While it does have some drawbacks, they are relatively trivial. Firstly, it has a slower than average printing speed. Quality printing does take time after all.
Secondly, a 6 tank ink system is naturally more expensive to operate than a 4 ink system. However, the photos are far more superior in quality than conventional printers.
All in all, for us this is a perfect machine. It has the best set of features for its price range. As such, we find this to be one of the best photo printers for Mac.
Also if you are into crafting, the best printers for stickers may also interest you.
2. HP ENVY 5055 – Cheapest Photo Printer for Mac
Despite being a highly affordable printer, it offers multi function features. Therefore, it can scan and copy as well.
It should be noted that while this printer has a low upfront cost, the actual ink cost for photo printing isn’t too budget friendly.
This printer is, therefore, excellent for occasional home photo printing. The quality may not be on par with the rest of the printers here but for personal use it is quite reasonable.
As far as the connectivity goes, it can connect via a USB cable to your computer as well as through WiFi. Unfortunately, unlike the Epson Expression Photo XP-960 above, it LACKS SD card support, front USB Thumb drive support as well as Apple AirPrint support.
Other than that, this printer can print a maximum of A4 sized photos. It has a print speed of 10 ppm with smaller images printing faster.
In the end, this is one of the cheapest photo printers in the market. For the affordability factor alone, this is one of the best photo printers for Mac.
While this may not be as robust as the Epson Expression Photo XP-960 above, the fact that it costs a fraction of the above mentioned printer makes this highly lucrative.

It also features Optimum Image Generating (OIG) technology that automatically utilizes the best combination of the 8 different inks for the printed photo.
The printer prints with a very high DPI of 4800×2400. It can also print wide format photos with a maximum size greater than A3 or 13″ x 19″.
To add to the versatility of this printer, it also comes with a built in CD DVD printing tray. This shouldn’t matter much if you are only photo printing, but it can come in handy at some point.
As far as connectivity goes, it offers wireless connectivity as well as direct printing capability via Apple AirPrint. On top of that, it offers PictBridge connection that lets you connect your cameras and camcorder directly.
This printer does have a few drawbacks. Firstly, it is on the expensive side of the spectrum. Only a professional photographers or a true photo enthusiast would be interested in this product.

Thirdly, it LACKS SD card slot or a USB port. Therefore, you cannot directly print through the media devices.
Fourthly, it lacks the All-in-One features despite being expensive,

4. Epson Expression Premium ET-7700 – Expensive but With a SuperTank – Wide Format
This is a printer with a SuperTank and a Continuous Ink Supply System. Its ink tanks can hold enough ink to print 14,000 black pages and 9,000 color pages. If you are printing smaller photos, that number can go even higher.
On top of that, the refilling ink bottles cost a fraction of the conventional ink cartridges.
You must note here that Epson Expression ET series does have cheaper models. For example the ET-2750 is the cheapest in the series that costs almost half as much as this ET-7700.
However, the cheaper variants are not photo printers. In other words, the quality of their prints is not up to the mark. If you want a dedicated photo printer with a super tank, then ET-7700 is the way to go. It has a 5 ink system instead of the normal 4.
Besides that, this printer offers other great features. It is an All in One printer with scanning and copying facilities. It can print at a fairly good speed of 10 color ppm and 13 black ppm.
Connectivity wise, it offers Wireless, WiFi-Direct for connecting with smart phones and Ethernet.
There are two relative drawbacks to this printer. The first one is the obvious high upfront cost. This may break the deal for most casual users. Secondly, it is bulky.
This printer great if you have a huge photo printing volume. Printing studios will most certainly find the SuperTank feature appealing.
Basically, if you are looking for a printer with the lowest possible operating costs, then this is one of the best photo printers for Mac.
