What to Expect in Terms of Features at this Price Range?

Despite IPS monitors being widespread in the market, you will be surprised to find that in certain categories it is rather hard to find a wholesome product.

This is true especially in the gaming niche. You will notice that if you want high end features like 144 Hz, FreeSync etc, it will be easier to find those in TN panels as compared to on IPS panels at a budget.

However, that is not to say that there are no products at all that are suitable for gaming in this range. The latest Acer Nitro monitors are a great example of such IPS monitors that are built for gaming yet are affordable. You can read about that below.

Where IPS panels truly shine is in the visual quality department. Therefore, if you are a professional looking for a monitor that produce vivid color details, then you will certainly find great monitors in this price range.

As such, this list is not ranker.

24 inch Best IPS Monitor Under 200 USD

This is a great size for gaming as well as for work. Most multiple monitor setups also utilize this screen size. The benefit here is that you can find excellent features at an affordable price tag.

1. Dell S2418H – Best Casual Monitor

Best IPS Monitor Under 200 USDWhat if you are neither a professional nor a gamer but are looking for just a great casual monitor to have for home or office.

If that is case, you can find IPS monitors well under the $200 range.

We highly recommend Dell S2418H because it is an all rounder monitor in all sense. There is no sub category that this monitor does not cover.

You may definitely call this the jack of all trades – albeit it is master of none.

For starters it is the only monitor with 12 W speakers built in. These are some of the loudest built in speakers that you can find in the market.

Secondly, if you are into casual gaming, it also has AMD FreeSync and a decently fast response time. You will need an AMD graphics card in order to utilize this feature though.

Thirdly, if you are into casual editing and designing, this monitor covers 99% of sRGB color space. This color space is essential for digital artists as well as content creators.

Furthermore, it offers HDR10. Photographers would understand the significance of this feature. This basically enhances the color space so that you have a lot of color at your disposal.

Besides that, this monitor looks elegant. With a small and functional base, it has a fairly small footprint. Therefore, it can be great for your office.

The only relative drawback of this otherwise excellent monitor is that it does not offer VESA mounting holes. As such you cannot mount this on dedicated monitor arms or on the wall.

I would say this is the only all rounder monitor in the market that deserves attention. It is perhaps for these reasons that this display has won Amazon’s Choice award.

For starters this is a 24 inch monitor with FHD resolution. So it is quite average in terms of its size.

Where it truly shines is in the fact that it boasts 1 ms response time. You should know that 1 ms response time on an IPS monitors was unheard of previously.

Although the native response time of the monitor is higher, Acer combines its Visual Response Boost (VRB) technology to lower the response time all the way to 1 ms.

In addition to that, this monitor offers AMD FreeSync technology, 75Hz refresh as well as speaker built in. Furthermore, for a monitor of this price and specs, Acer has still managed to carve out a great design for it.

This monitor looks like a gaming monitor from every corner and angle.

Unfortunately, this monitor does not offer a fast refresh rate. It has become a standard for most gaming monitor to feature 144 Hz refresh rate. However, if you want that, you will need to sacrifice on your demand for IPS panel. You will need to settle for TN or VA panel monitors like the AOC C24G1.

Also, being a comprehensive monitor, it not only features multiple connectivity options but also an ergonomic stand for adjustability.

As far as gaming is concerned, this monitor isn’t really marketed as such. However, you would most certainly enjoy the crisp and clear color and uniformity when gaming. AOC 27V2HThis is a fairly affordable monitor that is well under the $200 dollar range.

This monitor is the continuation of AOCs commitment to providing gorgeous screens at a very reasonable price point.

A frameless design like this complements any living space.

As far as the features are concerned, this monitor probably has the best performance/dollar value in this list. It offers a 27 inch FHD screen along with 75 Hz refresh rate, AMD Freesync as well as a decent 75 Hz refresh rate.

As such, this monitor is great for casual gaming as well as for casual work. Designers and photographers would find this lacking.

Thus, this monitor is excellent for gaming as well as for productivity. It is not, however, suitable for professional designing and editing work.

Unfortunately, this monitor is a bit lacking in terms of its connectivity options. It only manages to fit a single VGA and a single HDMI port. We would at least have expected dual HDMI for a monitor of this size.

You want to learn a thing or two about this subject before buying your monitor.

What is IPS Panel and Why Should You Buy It?

IPS stands for in plane switching. It is one of the three common panel types for monitors. About a decade ago, the panel type that you get for monitor did not really matter much. However, today with several specialization demanding specialized specs, you also have to consider the panel type.

Let us look at the three major ones here:

TN – Twisted Nematic

These panels are the oldest of the lot but they gradually getting much better with each passing year. Before 2013/2014, these were the most common panels. If you have a monitor from that day and age, there is a high chance that it is a TN panel monitor.

In comparison to the rest of the panels, TN suffers from narrower viewing angles and less impressive colors. However, they excel with response times. Almost all TN panels have a response time of about 1 ms. Therefore, as far as gaming is concerned, these are the most widespread.

The best thing about TN panels is that since they are cheaper, you can find major gaming specs for cheap on these panels.

IPS – In Plane Switching

Once you go IPS, then there is no turning back. There is a significant difference between IPS and the TN panel in brightness, color accuracy and viewing angles. Even the cheapest IPS panel would have higher color fidelity than a mid range TN panel monitor.

Due to this, IPS panels are loved by designers and editors. They are also loved by home user and office workers. Another great benefit of IPS panels is that it allows for the construction of thin bezel monitors. You will notice that TN panel monitors in comparison have larger bezels. Therefore, if you seek a dual or multi monitor setup, then IPS monitors are the way to go.

On the downside, they are not very gaming centric. In fact, features like 144 Hz refresh cannot be found in IPS monitors under 200 range. Also, the best native response time that they can offer is 4 ms.

VA – Vertical Alignment

These are not as widespread as the other two, but they are mostly found in Ultrawide monitors. These panels tend to combine the best of two. VA panels have wide viewing angles, great colors, and also great response times. However, they are generally more expensive in comparison.

VA panels are also excellent for color enthusiasts. In fact, they have three times as much static contrast ratio as compared to the other two panels.

If you have the time and want to study the panels more, I recommend watching this video.

Screen Size vs Resolution

Larger screen size does not mean a larger resolution. Resolution is basically the amount of pixels that you have on your screen. FHD resolution has 1920×1080 pixels, whereas QHD resolution has 2560×1440 pixels etc.

You will notice in the list of monitor mentioned above that all of the monitors have an FHD resolution. This is because a larger resolution, especially on larger screens, cost well beyond $200 range. As a rule of thumb many people prefer the following configuration.

  • FHD for 24 Inch or Lower screen size
  • QHD for 27 inch monitors
  • 4K/UHD for 32 or bigger monitors.

However, there is no hard and fast rule here. For example many would be okay with FHD on a 27 inch monitors since larger screens for many is more comfortable for working and entertainment.

Here we tried to find the best IPS monitor under 200 USD for you. We looked at monitors that all rounder like the Dell S2418H.

We also looked at monitors that are more specialized like the gaming grade Acer Nitro VG240Y bmiix or the Professional grade ViewSonic VP2458.

Besides that we looked at larger screen models from the 27 inch as well as 32 inch size category.

The bottom line here is that $200 is fairly decent price tag for choosing an IPS monitor. You can certainly find one that suits your needs.
