The clock speed is the first benchmark you will want to focus on. Clock speed is measured in GHz (1GHz is 1,000,000) and will tell you how many processes or calculations your processor can make per second.
Secondly, you want to look at the number of cores. Each core is essentially a singular brain, so a dual-core processor running at 2GHz can essentially work at 4GHz as each core runs at 2GHz.
